Hey Besties, Hey!
Sew Bestie started with one simple idea: sewing should be fun, approachable, and something anyone can learn.
Originally founded as Sew O'side in 2018 in Oceanside, California, we began with a small classroom and a mission to make sewing a little less intimidating. Since then, we've grown into Sew Bestie—with classrooms in Oceanside and San Diego, an ever-growing community of sewists, and plenty of adventures beyond the classroom.
At Sew Bestie, we specialize in making sewing beginner-friendly and easy to understand. Whether you're sitting behind a sewing machine for the very first time or you're ready to build your skills and try something new, you'll find a welcoming place to learn, create, make mistakes, ask questions, and probably laugh a little along the way.​
Meet Amanda
Sew Bestie founder Amanda Gerard has more than 20 years of experience behind a sewing machine. She's self-taught, fluent in "what not to do" and "oops, I did it again," and firmly believes you don't have to sew perfectly to make something you're proud of.
That experience shaped the way Sew Bestie teaches today: skip the intimidating jargon, explain the why, and give students the confidence to actually DO the thing.

Our classes welcome kids and adults, from absolute beginners to experienced makers looking to learn new techniques. We offer ongoing sewing instruction, workshops, camps, specialty classes, private and group experiences, and plenty of opportunities to simply get together and sew.
​​And Sew Bestie doesn't stop at the classroom doors.
Through Sewcations by Sew Bestie, we've taken that same welcoming, creative community on the road with sewing events and experiences designed to bring makers together to learn, create, shop, laugh, and make some pretty great sewing friends along the way.
Because at the end of the day, we're not just here to teach you how to use a sewing machine.
